Wildflower Ballet

This quilt was created specifically for the Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts Camp in Steamboat Springs. It was my third quilt. I pieced the background like a watercolor quilt, then machine appliquéd the flowers, hummingbirds, and ballerina fairies on top.

Winter Blues

I dye-painted the top of this quilt in a workshop with Hollis Chatelain, who creates gorgeous whole cloth quilts from her dye-painted surfaces. I'm glad I took the class, but this is the only project I created by dye-painting, so I donated it to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. I like hand appliqué too much.

Falling Aspens

I had some appliqué leaves left over from another quilt I was working on, so I put them to good use and made this small quilt for IQA's annual silent auction in Houston.

Yampa Valley Summer

This quilt was created for the Literary Sojourn held in Steamboat Springs. The event brings together authors and booklovers for a weekend of writing events. I used a lot of the elements from my quilt Elk River, Summer, to create this petite version.

Summer Lupine

Another auction quilt for the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden. This originally was going to be a half-dozen or so lupines in a horizontal format. But after finishing just one, I cut it down and gave it to RMQM.

It Looks Like It's Going to be Cold Again Today

A lot of my students will recognize this pattern. This is the original quilt that I made for the Silent Auction for IQA Houston. He was so simple, I developed him into a pattern for my workshops. He still makes me smile.

Think Pink

I love creating flower quilts, so I made this mini orchid for the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum's live auction at the Fabric and Friends fundraiser event. Pink is not usually in my color palette, but it was a fun piece to create.

Rocky Mountain Scrapbook

When the RMQM asked me to create their annual raffle quilt for 2010, I couldn't say 'no.' So I created this 'scrapbook' of images from the Rocky Mountain region. The hummingbird block is now one of my patterns for my hand appliqué workshops. I love the wildflower bouquet near the bottom.

Rhythm of the Yampa Valley

My first quilt. This was a collaboration with my friend Madeleine Vail, who had been encouraging me to take up quilting. When the opportunity arose to create the season art for Steamboat's Strings Music Festival, we created this quilt for them. To hear the complete story, come to one of my lectures at a guild near you!

When the Trees Whisper Their Music, I Always Stop and Listen

The idea for this quilt came from a blending of nature and music, two prominent themes of the Aspen Music Festival and School. I have been associated with the festival for a long time, and was delighted to create this piece for their annual silent auction in 2010.

Small Wonders

I love quilting spider webs. I actually started this quilt around 2003, and got as far as the machine appliqué. A few years after that, I worked on embroidering a web with beads at my friend Paula's lake house. I didn't like the way it was turning out, so I put it away. In 2010, while organizing my studio, I found it in a drawer and decided to finish it. I ripped out the embroidery and beads, and quilted in the web with Superior's Glitter thread. It was a perfect choice to donate to the RMQM in 2011.
